Awareness Training In Moving And Handling In Line With The All Wales Passport Scheme
This one day course is ideal as a refresher course for staff who have been trained in accordance with the all Wales Passport in Manual Handling Scheme. It is also an ideal stand alone training course for care home staff and carers in the community as it provides all the training required for manual handling in line with the requirements and standards set out in the All Wales Passport Scheme.
AIMS
- To provide carers with the information and skills relating to the safe handling of objects and people.
- This information will assist them to work safely and reduce the risk of work related musculoskeletal injury
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the session delegates will be able to:
- Have an understanding of what the AWPS is
- Have an understanding of the anatomy of the spine,
- knowledge of back injuries and how to avoid them
- Legislation
- Understand the principles of safe handling of people
- Understand the principles of safe handling of inanimate loads
- Complete risk assessments for people and inanimate loads
- Understand the application of ergonomics in the workplace
- Have the skills to communicate with clients and team members.
- Be assessed as competent in practical skills in moving and handling relevant to their work
- Where appropriate have an understanding of moving and handling practices
ASSESSMENT
Formative questioning by trainer throughout the session. Practical skills are formally assessed by demonstration.
CERTIFICATION
Participants are given a workbook
The students’ passport is updated to show what refresher training they have undertaken.
A Certificate of Awareness in Manual Handling is awarded to students who are not passport holders
