Fire Warden training
This course will help you comply with the new Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order that came into force in October 2006 by providing comprehensive training for the persons who have additional responsibilities as fire wardens.
Syllabus Outline
The course includes:
- Causes of fire and sources of ignition
- Description of the triangle of fire
- Explanation of the nature of combustion
- Preventing fire
- Procedures on discovering a fire, location and use of fire fighting equipment.
- Responsibilities, evacuation procedures and dealing with disabled persons.
- Explanation of when and how to use extinguishers with practice using a fire extinguisher to put out a real controlled fire.
- Limited risk assessment input
- Limited legislative input
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
- Explain the triangle of fire
- Describe how fire spreads
- Identify potential fire hazards
- State some of the hazards from fire in the individual’s own workplace
- Formulate a fire routine for the individual’s own workplace
- State some of the duties of a Fire Warden
- Understand what legislation applies to fire precautions in the workplace
- Identify the 5 steps to risk assessment
- Draw up an evacuation plan/roll call
- Understand the basic principles of passive fire protection (e.g. smoke detectors, fire alarms, emergency lighting etc)
- Identify and use safely the different types of fire extinguisher
Course Duration: 1 day
Final Test: Short test of 20 questions
Certification: Certificate of attendance
