CIEH (New) Level 2 Award in Hygiene in Health and Social Care

This a level 2 qualification, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Chadwick House Group Ltd, Chadwick Court,15 Hatfields, London SE1 8DJ Tel: 020 7928 6006, to provide employees with an introduction to hygiene hazards and how to control them

The Department of Health has drawn up a code of practice acknowledging that everyone involved in care provision needs training to tackle the risk of Health Care Acquired Infection (HCAI).

This new CIEH qualification is designed as an introduction to hygiene and ensures that vulnerable people are not exposed to unnecessary risks. It will help everyone, including those in the private and voluntary healthcare sectors, to play their part in maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Objectives
By the end of the course the student should be able to:

  1. understand the terminology used in good hygiene practice and should be able to state the consequences of poor standards of hygiene and the benefits of good standards, understand the importance of training and be aware of the legislation
  1. understand the concepts of hygiene hazards and how the risks can be controlled and the relationship of hazard and risk in prioritising action
  1. understand the importance of good personal hygiene and should be able to demonstrate suitable hand washing techniques and in general terms state the risks associated with exposure to infectious diseases at work and at home.
  1. recognise the need for high standards of hygiene and the importance of cleaning and its role in preventing infection and should be able to explain the importance of premises being suitably constructed, fitted out and equipped,  describe the correct procedures for dealing with waste, sharps and spillage and describe safe cleaning practices

Course duration: 3 hours

Assessment method: 15 multiple choice questions to be completed in 30 minutes under examination conditions

Certification:  Candidates who achieve 10 or more correct answers will pass the examination and receive a certificate.
